FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY DON'T WE TAKE INSURANCE?

Oh man. We wish managed care would consider making changes to their current operating system. We wish that they would allow us to recommend and provide the appropriate level of care that we know will ensure successful outcomes. Instead, they dictate how long and how often you can receive treatment, thereby minimizing the opportunity for true change.

All that being said, we are able to provide you with the information needed to seek reimbursement from your plan after the fact. It’s important to note that insurance doesn’t typically cover the whole cost of individual or group session packages as many elements of our programming are essential to success but, unfortunately, not recognized as “medically necessary” by insurance.

DO YOU ALWAYS BRING YOUR DOG(S) TO THE OFFICE WITH YOU?

I wish! But no, not all the time. Sometimes either Huckleberry or Florence (seen above) join me for the day, but not always. For the days that one of them is with me, please note their many nicknames.

Florence: Flo-Flo, Flobot, Flobag, or just plain old Flo.

Huckleberry: Hucklebug, Huck, Hucky, Huckle-ly Bug

WHY PACKAGES INSTEAD OF PER SESSION?

WE ARE UNIQUE. We usually meet weekly, but our coaching does not stop when the coaching hour is over. Instead, we’ve adopted a model of care that provides individualized and comprehensive coaching that includes embedded support throughout the week. In other words, expect to hear from us - regularly! For our executive functioning clients, this might mean a quick text to learn about the progress of a goal or a daily check-in to establish new routines and accountability. For our social communication clients, it might mean committing to skill-building or connecting with others face-to-face outside of the office.  â€‹

PACKAGE PLANS: Package plans are billed on a monthly basis. We’ve found this approach to be key in allowing us to coach our clients the "just right" amount based on their level of need, the goals they'd like to achieve, and the length of time they want to spend working on them. This model of care also provides us expanded opportunities to communicate with families and team members, and most certainly allows us to provide a much stronger level of accountability.

For our adult clients, this approach allows for quick rapport building and goal setting which enables us to get straight to teaching you what you need to know to tackle the next steps of your life. We'll be there to support you along the way by providing you encouragement and accountability as we work together to effect real change in your day-to-day life.

For our college-aged and younger clients, this model serves as a safety net for any negative impacts that their executive functioning or social communication missteps may be causing over the course of a quarter or semester. It allows parents to take a step back (a.k.a. stop naggng and just parent!) as students take ownership of their learning.

Throughout this process, our clients learn valuable skills and become their own best problem solvers. Without a doubt, they leave us with a stronger understanding of their strengths and challenges AND what they can do to help themselves reach the level of independence they want.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TIER MY STUDENT SHOULD BE ON?

This is a team decision. As we consider the options, we take into account each member's input regarding strengths, challenges, and self-awareness with regards to executive functions and academic needs. We ask hard questions and look for honest answers so that we can place you appropriately. If, at any time, it seems as though you might need more or less support, we can make package changes to reflect your needs.

DO WE ALWAYS MEET IN PERSON OR CAN WE MEET VIRTUALLY?

For the first session, we prefer in-person whenever possible. After that, we can be flexible, as long as focusing can happen through the screen of course!
